The light comes assembled and you can cut the cord to the length you want it to hang down before wiring it into a ceiling box (or wall box and hanging it from hook). I suggest NOT cutting the cord but rather coiling it up under the ceiling box cover so you can relocate it if you change your mind about location. To me the fixture feels cheap This product has completely transformed my living space.
